For those of you who know me, you know I was a huge fan of the emo scene back in middle school. Hell, I'm STILL into the emo scene (although now, it's pretty much for the nostalgia factor). So imagine my excitement when I received the opportunity to shoot Dashboard Confessional at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix...I was ecstatic.
I didn't even think that Dashboard Confessional was even a thing anymore (due to Chris Carrabba's Twin Forks project), but the second I found out they were on tour with Third Eye Blind, I jumped at the opportunity. I originally asked to photograph the Irvine date, but a photo pass wasn't possible. Luckily for me, I was in Scottsdale during the Phoenix date, so accommodations worked to my advantage (also found out that the Irvine date got rained out and had to be postponed!).
The highlight of the show was definitely after the second song, when Chris Carrabba looked at the photographers in the pit and said (and this is paraphrased), "Photographers, you're hard workers. You can stay through the entire set." WHAT. Inner emo girl Mimi was SCREAMING. An entire set, shooting Dashboard?! You bet as I was shooting I was belting out EVERY song.
While Third Eye Blind is great in everybody's books, I didn't want to lose the high of reliving my angsty teenage years after Dashboard, so I decided to forgo the concert photographer ambition and bask in my emo bliss.
